Here is a tip for you people

If you're not a common user on this board, and you're not using your screenname here as your username on irc, DON'T PLAY COY

There are hackers on IRC and if you play coy when I ask you who you are, I am going to ban you from the channel, 1 for being an idiot, and 2 for being a possible hacker/spam bot. SO IDENTIFY YOURSELF WHEN YOU COME IN!

Get it? Got it? Good.

Well, the KLSX website has a chatroom available for the show, but anyone who's actually been there, knows that chatroom sucks(those that were there yesterday, MVL, Rowebot, Gobias, etc knows that, and we left to go on MSN).

The Jewce has taken it upon himself to bring to all of you the best chatroom experience possible: The Adam Carolla Show Message Board's very own mIRC Chatroom.

For those already familiar with mIRC: the server is AfterX, and the channel is #CarollaChat

First things first, you have to download the program mIRC here:

Next step: install and open the program, which brings you to this screen



Click on Continue(even after your 30 day trial, this program is free, it simply keeps asking you to register)

Next, you will be brought to a screen that asks you to input your name, email, nickname, etc and to Connect, SKIP THIS for now. On the Left Side, click on Servers and look for the server named AfterX because this is the server the chatroom is hosted on, select it and then click on Select as shown here.


Now, on the left side menu, go back to Connect at the very top and input your information, then click Connect in the lower right hand corner.


After you've connected to the AfterX Server, a screen should pop up asking you to join a channel, simply type CarollaChat and then click Join


After you join the channel, you should be in the chatroom, and you should see a Topic Message like this


And now for the exciting part...and the reason why this chatroom is in Beta, is that I plan to make a Bot(don't worry, it's not self aware) that will let you play ACS related games, such as trivia, and hopefully we can do a lot more than that.

For those who have never used mIRC before, I know it seems like a lot to get it started, but it's very easy, and like with any new program, the more you use it, the more it becomes like 2nd Nature.

mIRC is a script based chatroom, this allows us to do all sorts of neat things. First things first for chatting, Here are some simple commands that lets you change your text. These work a lot like BB code on this message board, but it has to be typed out.

• Ctrl + K for color, some color tiles and numbers will pop up, just type out the number and then keep typing to type in that color
• Ctrl + B for bold then just keep typing and it will be bold
• Ctrl + U for underline, same as with bold
• Ctrl + R for reverse color(black background, white text), same as bold/underline

Commands
Here are some simple commands to help you easily navigate in case you find yourself in the wrong server or channel(channel is chatroom by the way)

You will type this out in your default window exactly how it looks below, slashes and all, just copy and paste

/server afterx
/join #CarollaChat

No matter what channel or server you accidentally find yourself on, you can always input these commands(and in this order) you will be able to find yourself back to this chatroom. A quick way to do this is also to add the channel/chatroom to your Favorites in mIRC.


Registering Your Username
You don't have to use your message board username as your username here, HOWEVER, if you are caughter impersonating anyone(verify through PMing me if someone is using your username) especially a mod or admin of this board, you will be banned from the chatroom(by your IP address, so switching nicknames won't work).

Here is how to register YOUR username on this server(and only this server)

Enter this command into any chat window(your default one is best) when you are using the nickname you want to register(if you want to change it, type in any chat window "/nick NEWNAME"

/msg Nickserv Register PASSWORD youremail@email.com

Obviously, where it says password, use a password of your choice, and for youremail, use your email address(must be valid, it will have to be validated, they'll send you a link)

From now on, whenever you log onto mIRC with this nickname on the AfterX server, you will be prompted to input this command

/msg Nickserv Identify PASSWORD

Again, use the password you used to register the nickname. This will protect other people from using your nickname on this server.

Jesus... that looks complicated but I'll give it a try later. I noticed the board died last night after we entered the chat room, so maybe this will suppress some of the activity during the day. I'm sure people don't like seeing that there are 500 threads to catch up on every time they log on.

A tip: If you say "brb" to go get something to drink, scroll up when you get back. Because you were most likely discussed the second your ass left your chair. And no, Jewdo, you didn't teach me everything I know about moderating on the C&W board.

I'm going to try this, then unavoidably get frustrated and quit halfway through.

mIRC is pretty easy once you get the hang of it. I'll probably stop in later today.

Okay, I'm in the chat and I see Jewdo and someone else. I did a MIJO call out, but no one responded.

I tried registering my name but it told me I had to wait 2 minutes. Weak.

I guess now I have to download mIRC......gah.

Super Easy way to chat without downloading mirc!


1. Go to www.Mibbit.com

2. Under Server choose "Other server"

3. Enter "afterx.net"

4. Enter "#CarollaChat" for channel

5. Enter a username and hit connect

6. Enjoy.

I would like to say though that mIRC is a good program and it is worth downloading and learning
